What is the SCA?

The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. Our "Known World" consists of 19 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Members dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance attend events which may feature tournaments, arts exhibits, classes, workshops, dancing, feasts, and more. What makes the SCA truly unique is that its members don't just study various aspects of history, they attempt to recreate what they study. And that study can incorporate anything that would have been done in history - from the scholarly use of calligraphy and illumination to the martial activities of fighting on the battlefield with sword and shield. If it was practiced during the time frame of the SCA, then someone in the SCA is attempting to bring it to life.

How can I join?

Participation in the SCA is open to anyone who shares the Society's interests in historical re-creation, and who abides by its laws and customs. The best way is to attend any of our populous meetings. This is a good way of getting to know people and finding out about other events. The practices are not just for fighting - you will also find people practicing the arts or just socializing. Simply show up at any of our meetings, tournaments or classes. There are no special fees or requirements in order to join.

Membership in the Society is modest and entitles you to subscriptions to the local Kingdom news letter and a beautiful Arts & Sciences newsletter called Tournaments Illuminated which is the Society's newsletter.

Please contact the Chatelaine for more information on attending on of our meetings or any question you may have regarding out canton or any other SCA related questions.
